Anzac Day Again
Another Anzac Day in the USA. This time I've made Anzac Biscuits to mark the occasion. The recipe seemed pretty easy except that you can't get golden syrup here. Not even treacle. Only a molasses that is as dark as pitch. (I think that's why it's Br'er Rabbit Brand.) In fact, they don't even know the word treacle, except for one of my classmates who had read it in Harry Potter! So I just used brown sugar instead of white and they taste the same.

Do you get people getting confused about the difference between biscuits and cookies? I always think it's a travesty when biscuits are referred to as cookies, and it's even worse if it's Anzac biscuits!
No, there were too many students in today's class (philosophy of biology) for me to share with my American friends. (So I was rude and just ate in front of them.) Cindy did watch me bake them but her biscuit means the same as it does for us.
While I do try to speak American for the sake of being understood, had it come up, I certainly wouldn't have desecrated the word Anzac by calling them "cookies".
Do you know about American "biscuits"? They're basically scones served with savoury dishes instead of a dinner roll. And the things they call "scōnes" are shaped like rock-cakes, much denser than a true scone or cake, with berries or something mixed through.
